Tips for Traveling with a Kayak
Traveling with a kayak can be a little bit of a headache. I have done numerous road trips with my kayak tied to the roof of my vehicle. They were fun but I wanted a more convenient method of being able to enjoy paddling while exploring new destinations.
There is no doubt that a kayak allows you to explore wonderful new areas that could not have been seen or experienced by land. However if it is not convenient then you will not want to bring it along with you.
I discovered a couple of years ago the convenience of inflatable kayaks. They are able to be stored away in small spaces plus transported in the trunk of your car or even taken on an airplane. They are ideal for any person who loves to travel as well as loves to paddle.
Kayak Traveling Tips
If you want to travel with a kayak I would highly recommend looking into an inflatable kayak.
There are many different makes and models to choose from and many of excellent quality. For traveling purposes it is best to look for a model that:
- Is fairly lightweight – it is nice to be able to check it onto an airplane without paying any extra fees.
- Is versatile – although there are many different kinds of inflatable kayaks, it is nice to have a model for traveling that is able to take on many different kind of water so you are not limited in its use.
- Is affordable – as you have likely seen with your suitcases, things get banged around while traveling. I would recommend getting an inflatable that is good quality but not the cream of the crop. A decent inflatable kayak will last you a very long time and be ideal for traveling purposes.
Whether you are on a road trip or flying to another country, an inflatable kayak can go with you anywhere and be a lot of fun to paddle.
Others may choose to actually paddle their kayaks to their destination of choice which of course is an excellent way to explore remote areas that could not have been accessed by land.
Whether you choose to travel with a hard-shell or an inflatable be sure that you get a model that you are able to handle yourself and easily manoeuvre either from the trunk of your car or from the roof rack.
Then it is simply a matter of researching and choosing a fantastic destination to explore. With a kayak you will have a whole new world of traveling opportunities open to you and it will simply come down to how much time you have to explore.
